Why freeze eggs?
If you’re considering egg freezing to preserve your fertility, it can give you more reproductive options for the future. Freezing eggs when you are younger may improve the chance of having a baby with those eggs later, compared with choosing not to preserve eggs.
There is no single “perfect age” to freeze your eggs. However, egg freezing outcomes are generally better when eggs are collected and frozen sooner rather than later as natural fertility can decline critically with age.

In most cases, treatment can begin within 2–6 weeks of your initial consultation. Timing depends on your cycle and any preparation required, but we aim to make this process as seamless and flexible as possible.

No. During each natural menstrual cycle, the body recruits multiple eggs, but typically only one ovulates while the remaining eggs naturally break down and are lost. Egg freezing medications help mature more of these eggs from that month’s group so they can be collected and preserved instead of naturally disappearing. Egg freezing does not cause early menopause or significantly reduce your future fertility potential.

In Victoria eggs can be stored for up to 10 years. When you’re ready to use your eggs:
Eggs are thawed
Fertilised with sperm (IVF/ICSI)
Embryos are developed in the lab
An embryo is transferred into the uterus
Not all eggs will survive thawing or fertilisation, which is why egg numbers are important.
